During the month of April faith-based organizations around New York City will present the following activities:

AprilThe Riverside Church in the City of New York
6thSunday, April 6, 2008, 10:45am
Worship Service Peace and Justice: The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Rev. Robert B. Coleman, Minister of Mission and Social Justice at Riverside will present his sermon, Listening to the Ice.

The Riverside Church will worship, remembering and honoring Dr. King's historic sermon on April 4, 1967 denouncing the Vietnam War and our perpetual call to non-violent means for bringing peace to the world. Rev. Coleman will encourage an active listening to those 'air pockets' of peacemakers and peacemaking that have long been frozen in cold war posturing and the cold-blooded cruelty of empire building both historically and today. From the roots of the Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, to Mahatma Gandhi's satyagraha and Dr. King's 'beloved community,' we find the tension that pulls faith communities into action based on love and reconciliation, not hatred and revenge.
